restaurant – Foothills Catalyst

Marion- I had the opportunity to go eat at Crabby Abby’s Bar and Grill in Marion this week. They are a fresh, seasonal, scratch made seafood restaurant. They offer a casual yet upscale atmosphere with a focus on straight forward “seafood done simply”. They are located on 105 West Main Street.

I went with several friends who eat there regularly. It was not my first time going but I had not been in quite a while. The last time I went we had their marvelous crab cakes and steak. They have different daily specials. So if you are going call 828-559-2726 and check them out.

The specials that night were sliced flank steak, fried oysters and NY Strip. Of course they had their other regular menu items available . (see below)

My husband had the fried oysters and my friends had the low country boil and flank steak. I filled up on appetizers of conch fritters and crab spinach dip so I just got some pot stickers. Needless to say it was delicious all way around. We were way too full for dessert but they have lovely ones available.

They are closed on Monday and Tuesday, open 5-9 on Wed/Thurs., till 10pm on Fri/Sat., and Sunday from 12pm until 6pm.

It is about a 30 minute drive from from Rutherfordton but well worth it for a nice night out. It is small so expect a wait during busy times if you don’t call ahead. Parking is along Main Street.

Spindale, NC – Spindale just keeps getting it right with restaurants. Their newest addition is Circle B BBQ located at 135 West Main Street in the former Fat Tracy’s location near Barley’s Taproom.

Owner Tim Brigman has been doing catering and working out of his food truck for several years building a great local following for his smoked barbeque and grilling techniques.

He finally has settled down in a brick and mortar building where his slow cooked pork, brisket, and chicken is available on a regular basis. (Open Tuesday-Thursday 11:00- 8:00 and Friday-Saturday 11:00-9:00)

His smoky pulled pork is juicy and moist even without his signature smoky vinegar based sauce but the sauce complements it perfectly. He has said that he is experimenting with several sweet sauces and plans to have them on the menu soon for those who prefer it.

His pulled chicken sandwich is delicious all by itself. I must say I have not found one quite like it in this area.

The fries are crisp, hush puppies are crunchy outside with a nice soft center and the macaroni is the cheesiest I have had outsides of my grandmother’s house.

The star of this show however is the brisket. It has the perfect pink smoke ring and is moist and tender. The portions are generous and the sandwich melts in your mouth. He is keeping his menu short and simple for right now but does plan to expand in the future.
